Royalty
Everia functions with the aid of a human monarchy. A governing king or queen decides on laws and their eldest child claims the throne once the king passes away or feels it is his time to give it up.
When no heir is presented, distant relatives are gathered by The Ocular and the most fit for ruling is chosen.
While the current royalty can choose to marry anyone of their choice, it is highly peculiar for them to marry anyone outside of the royal families and nobility. There may also only be one king or queen in true power, their spouse mostly kept as a replacement in case they are to perish and have yet to raise an heir.
The king, queen, and any direct relatives of the two live in the center of Maginite (the nation's capital) in the Grand Palace. They handle the nation's most pressing matters, but otherwise each individual province is governed as a fief: independently, but under indefinite ruling from the queen and/or king.
Individual fiefs may have individual laws, and are governed by individuals chosen by the current monarch, or by means of inheritance. However, the duke, duchess, lord, or lady that governs a fief must adhere to the nation's laws, else the Ocular will swiftly slay the offender.
If a particular fief and the current monarch have opposing laws, the monarch's laws will always override the fief's laws, with no exceptions unless the fief is granted the law for their particular area of land by the king or queen themselves or the Ocular through massive amounts of paperwork on the fief owner's part.

Queen Rosette
The current queen of Everia is Rosette Laylette Montague, who married into the royal family through the late Prince William approximately 11 years ago, in the year 1153.
Prince William was approximately 22 years of age at their meeting, and 23 when they married.
The prince's older brother had been killed in the Dark Uprising when William was 20, quelling demon lord T'almos. Thus, William became heir to the throne.
His mother died of a weak heart when his brother died, and his father was killed by an assassin when William was only 19. The Archmage and Astral Mage deemed that William needed a wife if he was to keep the royalty as well as the peasantry happy, and held the throne while he found a suitable wife.
He met Rosette when he was 22, and instantly they fell in love with the young noble. He comforted her when her father was slain by the resurrected demon lord T'almos, and together they decided to lead the kingdom and fell deeper in love.
When Prince William was slain at the couple's coronation, using his body as a human shield to protect Rosette from a cult that sought to revive the sealed Titan, Croisis, she was the only noble close enough to the throne to claim it.
Since she was only 17 when she was handed the crown, many members of the nation doubted her abilities to lead them, her self included on that list. However, through sheer willpower and patience (some would call it stubbornness), she kept the nation from crumbling under the pressure of a newly risen Titan.
She gave birth to a son mere months into her time as queen, and has raised a now 10 year old son that she named William II. He is a quiet child, but intelligent and brave in school, and Rosette is rarely seen making any grand announcement without her son at her side.
When Rosette was 25, an assassin made an attempt on her life in a protest against the Runic Tram. With the skills taught to her by a proud plant maiden huntress, the queen not only fought the assassin off, but she also managed to run him down and arrest him herself in nothing but her nightgown.
Since then, not so much as an imp has made an attempt on the queen's life, and her reputation only spreads.
Now, in the year 1164, the queen is 28 years of age. She has kept the kingdom together and reinforced interracial bonds between the humans, thunder weavers, dwarves, and plant maidens, throwing off any doubts that the nation once had of her leadership.
She announced and thought of the construction of the Runic Tram in the year 1161, led the kingdom into a fantastic economy, and now commands her armies with righteous praise, and occasionally battles back the remaining demons herself when time allows.
William II is currently being trained by the same plant maiden that taught Rosette, and the queen leads the kingdom with as mighty a hand as she can manage.
