The Ocular
The Ocular are a highly dignified and resepected group of mages, working directly under the king or queen at the current time.
They are a sort of supreme court. Anything that is headed to the monarch, first goes through the Ocular. They decide if a fief's laws are just, if a criminal is worth their attention, if a law should be upheld any longer, and the like. As soon as they act upon anything, they send a brief letter to the current monarch and begin work. The monarch has the ability to cease any action the Ocular is currently engaging in, without question.
The Ocular is allowed to act upon current laws, such as chasing down thieves, arresting drunkards that start fights, and the like. They are highly trained and highly disciplined, but they are also looked upon with an air of discomfort.
The people of Everia are tightly bound in laws governing magic, prohibiting many magical acts from being acted upon: including necromancy, severe transmutation, and other such acts. Magic doing anything that is otherwise illegal, such as destroying public property or injuring a citizen, is treated even more harshly than a regular misdemeanor or crime.
The Ocular specializes in hunting down wizards and warlocks of all sorts, and were originally created for that sole purpose, but have become advisers and nobles after many decades of serving the kings and queens.
The Ocular also has three reigning figureheads:
The current Ocular is just shy of a hundred members, each with a vastly different range of magic.
The current Astral Mage is Luna Lucrost, a noblewoman from the northern reaches of Everia, who is both Rosette's guide and her guardian.
The current Lurking Magister is a Vyncent Reignheart, an elven exile straight from Ellesma, who swore his magical prowess for Everia and the queen.
The current Archmage is Draknos Sandrake, a dragonborn from the desert bluffs who has served alongside the queen himself, but now fights for draconic rights within the continent.

The Ocular also has three reigning figureheads:
- The Astral Mage: Head advisor of the king and/or queen, following them into the city, and mastering a deadly repertoire of magic to defend the monarch in case of attack. They exist solely to protect the monarch, but every mage is different, and some are sought by the king or queen for political assistance. In the past, an Astral Mage has defended the king from several deadly onslaughts of bandits and marauders, single handedly.
- The Lurking Magister: The only member of the Ocular that works completely alone, devoid of any outside help. They are masters of illusions and melee magic, working through shadows to eavesdrop on foreign dignitaries, infiltrate strongholds, and report all of their findings directly to the monarch, bypassing all of the Ocular. There is one recorded document of a Lurking Magister discovering an entire sect of a cult beneath the streets, and shut it down without a single member escaping or shouting for help.
- The Archmage: The figurehead, leader, and general of the Ocular. The Archmage has final say on any law (magical or otherwise) that passes him by, his word only surpassed by the monarch itself. He decides who gets into the Ocular, and who is thrown out, as well as which members will be suspended, reprimanded, celebrated or the like. In the past, Archmages have led wars against the kingdoms enemies, using no one but the members of the Ocular, and have emerged completely victorious.
