The Vorago and Its Pieces
In lore from all over the regions of Bennick, the Vorago is always the same thing. It is essentially what holds the universe together, every thread and fiber of existence everywhere. It links the realms, and holds them all in place; it keeps people from being torn apart simply by the mana within them; and some even claim that it IS what mana essentially is.
In all actuality, the Vorago is creation personified. It is the First, the Last, and the Only. So, while the previous explanations are correct, it is all of those things, but it is also everything else. It's the only real way to refer to everything in Bennick. However, not many people, other than small tribes or ancient scholars, even acknowledge the Vorago's existence anymore. It was more of a way to deal with the unknown way back when.
But the Vorago won't just lie down and be ridiculed! Every so often, it simply grows too much, so a piece of it manifests into reality, as completely raw creation energy. The pieces are near impossible to detect, but easy enough to use. When any adventurer, commoner, nobility, or otherwise, obtains a fragment of the Vorago, they simply make a wish, and the Vorago-shard will manifest into the most complex form it can to grant that wish.
As a piece of the Vorago rests dormant it grows by absorbing the creation energy around it. As it grows, the potential "wishes" it can grant become more complex and more extraordinary. However, many challenges guard pieces of the Vorago, to test the merit of adventurers alike. But the Vorago is also fair. Every sentient surviving member of a party that has obtained a piece, gets an equal-sized fragment of it. So the larger the group, the easier it is to get a piece, but the smaller the potential reward.
Some claim that the Vorago itself would be willing to grant the greatest of wishes, beyond that of imagination. But since it is practically a deity in and of itself, it remains hidden from humanity, forever locked away in the reaches of itself.
